As per Gartner's option to redefine related products, it represents the change that has occurred in the enterprises about the use of the content, both internally and externally.

FREMONT, CA: According to Gartner, a Content Services Platform (CSP) is a collection of microservices, personified either as an integrated product suite or as an individual application sharing mutual APIs and repositories, designed to develop different types of content and serve multiple stakeholders across an enterprise.

In short, the CSP is an API centric, cloud/device-agnostic next-gen enterprise content management system that maintains multiple repositories, content types, endpoints, and business use cases to serve numerous stakeholders within an organization. Some products like FileCloud and M-Files fulfill the description of Gartner and are regarded as the platforms of Content Services.

The distinctions between Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and CSP rest in a centralized approach, as opposed to a standardized approach. ECM's primary goal is to achieve a broad set of operational objectives through a single unified framework. CSPs, on the other hand, are created to improve efficiency by relying on different strategies and tools. When it comes to enterprises, content services focus more on how groups and individuals are utilizing the content rather than content storage. Also, it uses that information to obtain valuable insights into business operations.

ECM is seen as a tool for transforming paper documents into electronic data and exchanging them with other workers. Digital enterprises are now in dire need of more holistic services along with a platform that can put the information together across various repositories to integrate incompatible applications.

The current ECM systems have not met their initial promises to consolidate all enterprise content into a centralized repository. Besides, they were also ineffective in delivering the user experience that is necessary for end-users as well as being unable to address new features such as enterprise file sharing and sync, group communication, team collaboration, and others. While ECM can manage content, its advantages will still be limited to a centralized platform only. Using multiple tools in information management helps bring a more pragmatic approach to solving both the current and new business process problems. Thus, the most effective approach is based on an organization's reliance on changing digital content.
