A second solution that has proven successful for hoteliers is the use of "on-demand" apps, which give cooks, waiters, or bartender’s access to jobs based on their availability each night. They are provided with the option of when they would like to receive payment, e.g., at the end of a shift or at the end of a week
Fremont, CA: Amidst the pandemic, nearly every aspect of hotel food and beverage operations was disrupted.Once restrictions were lifted and these spaces were gradually able to host guests again, hoteliers faced new challenges, including new COVID protocols, such as mask mandates and higher sanitation standards.

Navigating Staffing Issues in the Food & Beverage Space
Many hotel workers left the industry during the pandemic to seek employment in other industries, and it began to open up again, and restaurants became short-staffed once again. In addition, many of those left were overworked and exhausted. In order to counter the lack of staff, the industry had to find solutions without compromising service, food quality, or overall guest experience.
Hoteliers have been turning to automation and robotic solutions to overcome labor shortages and ensure food safety. Food preparation and even serving can be assisted by robots. From the beginning of the pandemic, there has been an increased focus on food safety, and robots have been instrumental in eliminating the need for cross-contamination and human touch. Although robots cannot account for every variable, such as guests who require gluten-free preparation or extra salt, they can contribute to overall efficiency when serving and preparing food.
A second solution that has proven successful for hoteliers is the use of "on-demand" apps, which give cooks, waiters, or bartender’s access to jobs based on their availability each night. They are provided with the option of when they would like to receive payment, e.g., at the end of a shift or at the end of a week. There are many people who find this avenue helpful in their search for a greater degree of flexibility in their professional lives.
To make the hospitality industry more competitive and to attract and retain workers, wages must be increased and new payment methods examined. The majority of guests tip through their credit cards, which means restaurant workers are not receiving their tips in a timely manner and are waiting days and even weeks to receive tips that they used to be able to bring home every day.
A shortage of staff has forced hoteliers to rethink their hiring strategies. Branded, full-service hotels are increasingly looking for people with leadership experience, particularly those who have experience managing a large team and following a set menu, such as employees from chain restaurants. As many hotel brands offer similar menu options throughout the country, it has become increasingly essential to have people who are capable of analyzing reports and budgets in order to maintain the hotel's food and beverage ecosystem.
